Book Launch of Decolonizing Maasai History: A Path to Indigenous African Futures
Prescott College and our larger community is invited to gather on January 20 to celebrate the launch of a book that highlights 20 years of collaboration between Prescott College and the Maasai community of East Africa.
The book by Meitamei Olol Dapash & Mary Poole, Decolonizing Maasai History: A Path to Indigenous African Futures, presents a Maasai vision that another world is possible and demonstrates the importance of the stories we tell of history to finding our way to those futures.
The event will be held on a day important to history. On this day of remembrance of Martin Luther King Jr., we will reaffirm our commitment to keeping alive the story of the Civil Rights Movement and its accomplishments. January 20th is also the day of the presidential inauguration, and so we also gather as a college community to demonstrate our commitment to continue the fight for diversity, equity and inclusion in higher education in the face of new challenges.
Prescott College president Barbara Morris will introduce this event which will include a short reading, brief commentary from a few invited guests, and an opportunity to meet the authors and buy the book.
